    Current legal and ethical issues regarding the mental health, psychopathology, and risk behavior of children and adolescents have generated significant public attention, parental concern, and professional consultation and opinion. These issues arise within a range of youth mental health and behavioral problems. At the same time, there is an increase in scientific knowledge about the developing brain and the environmental and psychosocial effects on evolving neural networks that lead to subsequent adaptation or vulnerability. These trends highlight the need for clinicians to have training and competence at the interface of child mental health; developmental psychology; and relevant social, legal, and ethical issues (Difonzo and Stern 2013).
