Evidence-based medicine, as originally conceived by David Sackett and others at McMaster University in Canada, has grown to influence the practice of medicine, including child and adolescent psychiatry. The United Kingdom and other countries implement the principles of evidence-based medicine in their national health services. The American Psychological Association has developed guidelines for identifying evidence-based interventions. Psychology and multidisciplinary professional groups have used the term evidence-based practice, which we use in this chapter.
