Terms of Use
All use of PsychiatryOnline is subject to the terms and conditions set
forth below. For the purposes of this document:
- 'APPI' is American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc., the publisher of PsychiatryOnline
(1000 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 1825, Arlington, VA 22209-3901; Voice: 703-907-7322
or 800-368-5777; Fax: 703-907-1091; Email: appi@psych.org).
- 'You' and 'User' refer to the person who completed the registration process.
Copyright & Trademarks
Unless otherwise noted, all materials (including but not limited to
site layout, design, images, text, and other information; collectively,
the "Content") on this site whether in print or electronic
form, both as a compilation and as individual chapters, sections, and
articles, are the property of American Psychiatric Publishing, Inc.,
and the American Psychiatric Association and are protected by copyright
and other intellectual property laws. During the term of your subscription
to PsychiatryOnline Content and services, APPI grants you a nonexclusive,
nontransferable license to access and use PsychiatryOnline Content and
services you have subscribed to under the terms described in this Agreement.
For individual subscriptions, only one person at a time may access the
PsychiatryOnline Content and services using the User's username and
password. You may display, download, and print, for your own research
or study only, materials from PsychiatryOnline; you may not otherwise
copy, modify, reproduce, publish, transmit, display, broadcast, rent,
lend, sell, or otherwise distribute any materials from PsychiatryOnline
or modify or remove any proprietary notices contained therein, or create
derivative works based on Content from PsychiatryOnline. APPI reserves
the right to terminate the User's subscription at any time if the User
downloads or prints a substantial portion of PsychiatryOnline or violates
any terms of this agreement in any way. The User may not disseminate
any portion of PsychiatryOnline through electronic means, including
mail lists or electronic bulletin boards and agrees not to restrict
or inhibit any other User's access to, or use of, PsychiatryOnline.
No one may systematically retrieve Content from the site to create or
compile, directly or indirectly, a collection, compilation, database,
or directory without written permission from APPI.
Book of the Month Exception: PsychiatryOnline currently offers access in PDF format to a free book each month from the APPI Bookstore. No other formats will be supplied. This feature may be discontinued at any time without notice or reason to subscribers. Subscribers have access to the Book of the Month for only as long as the “download” link appears on the PsychiatryOnline home page (usually one month). The User license does not cover storing the book in any format beyond the one-month period. You may not copy, modify, reproduce, publish, transmit, display, broadcast, rent, lend, sell, catalog, or otherwise distribute the Book of the Month.

The User agrees to indemnify APPI from all damages, liabilities, costs, charges and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, which APPI, its affiliates, and employees may incur as a result of either the User's violation of this Agreement.
No Warranties/Limitations on Liability
PSYCHIATRYONLINE AND ALL CONTENT AND MATERIALS CONTAINED THEREIN ARE
PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" BASIS. APPI MAKES NO GUARANTEES OR
WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR
PURPOSE, WARRANTIES AS TO THE ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, CURRENTNESS, OR
RESULTS TO BE OBTAINED FROM ACCESSING AND USING PSYCHIATRYONLINE, NOR
ANY MATERIAL WHICH CAN BE ACCESSED (VIA A DIRECT OR INDIRECT HYPERLINK
OR OTHERWISE) THROUGH PSYCHIATRYONLINE.
THE AUTHORS OF WORKS ON THIS SITE HAVE WORKED TO ENSURE THAT ALL INFORMATION
IS ACCURATE AT THE TIME OF ORIGINAL PUBLICATION AND CONSISTENT WITH
GENERAL PSYCHIATRIC AND MEDICAL STANDARDS, AND THAT INFORMATION CONCERNING
DRUG DOSAGES, SCHEDULES, AND ROUTES OF ADMINISTRATION IS ACCURATE AT
THE TIME OF ORIGINAL PUBLICATION AND CONSISTENT WITH STANDARDS SET BY

TO ANY USE OF PSYCHIATRYONLINE. USER AGREES THAT ALL DEMANDS FOR DAMAGES
OF WHATEVER KIND ASSESSED AGAINST APPI ARISING OUT OF, OR RELATING TO
USE OF, PSYCHIATRYONLINE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL AMOUNT THE USER
PAID TO APPI FOR USE OF PSYCHIATRYONLINE DURING THE PREVIOUS TWELVE
(12) MONTHS.
Access
APPI intends for the PsychiatryOnline web site to be available 24 hours
per day, 7 days per week. However, APPI WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES
OR REFUNDS SHOULD THE SITE BECOME UNAVAILABLE TEMPORARILY OR ACCESS
TO A SITE BECOMES SLOW OR INCOMPLETE due to system back-up procedures,
Internet traffic volume, upgrades, overload of requests to the servers,
general network failures or delays, or any other cause which may from
time to time make PsychiatryOnline inaccessible to Institutional subscribers.
APPI will make reasonable efforts to notify subscribers of any unusually
extended interruptions and will attempt to restore access to sites as
soon as possible.
PDA Registration Policy
Each PsychiatryOnline PDA eBook subscriber is permitted to register
one PDA device during the subscription period. Purchased eBooks will
be copy-protected for this registered device before download and will
only display on the registered PDA. Subscribers may change their registered
device once during their subscription period (in the event that the
subscriber purchases a new device or his or her existing device becomes
damaged or lost). Subscribers who need to change their registered PDA
more than once during the subscription period should contact Customer
Service at PsychiatryOnline@psych.org; 800-368-5777 or 703-907-7322.
Please note that purchased eBooks must be re-downloaded and re-installed
following registration of a new PDA.
Username and Password
During registration to use the site, you must select a username and
password. It is your responsibility to keep your username and password
confidential. You are responsible for promptly notifying APPI of any
disclosure or unauthorized use of your username and password by calling
800-368-5777 or sending email to PsychiatryOnline@psych.org. You will
be assigned a new username and password. You may be liable for any damages
that occur prior to such notification, including charges incurred as
a result of the unauthorized use of your credit card. You will notify
APPI within thirty (30) days of any changes in your registration data.
Refund Policy
You may cancel your subscription at any time during the first 3 months
of your subscription; you will receive a refund for the remaining months
of your subscription. REFUND EXCEPTION: Purchases of PDA eBooks are
not eligible for refunds.
Term and Termination
This Agreement will continue and renew automatically unless terminated
by APPI, as provided for in this Agreement, or you fail to respond to
the renewal notice from APPI and do not renew your subscription.
APPI may discontinue or change PsychiatryOnline, or its availability
to you, at any time. If you refuse or fail to abide by these rules or
violate any other terms or conditions of this Agreement, APPI reserves
the right in its sole discretion to suspend or terminate your access
to PsychiatryOnline immediately without notice, in addition to any other
available remedies.
Privacy Policy
APPI may use information you provide as part of the registration process
to send you information regarding other products or services from APPI
that may be of interest to you. APPI sometimes shares subscriber information
(but never your email address or credit card number) with selected outside
companies whose products or services we feel may be of interest to you.
In addition, APPI may provide aggregated, anonymous statistical information
about users to other organizations, including CME faculty, the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education, and potential advertisers.

APPI reserves the right to change the terms of this Agreement by providing
notice at PsychiatryOnline or, at APPI's option, directly to users via
electronic mail or conventional mail. Use of PsychiatryOnline following
the posting of any changes to these terms and conditions shall be conclusively
deemed acceptance of those changes by the User.
This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the User and
APPI relating to PsychiatryOnline and supersedes any and all other agreements,
oral or in writing, with respect to PsychiatryOnline Content and Service(s).
The failure of APPI to insist upon strict compliance with any term of
this Agreement shall not be construed as a waiver with regard to any
subsequent failure to comply with such term or provision. This Agreement
is personal to you, and you may not assign your rights or obligations
to anyone. If any provision in this Agreement is invalid or unenforceable
under applicable laws, the remaining provisions will continue in full
force and effect.
This Agreement shall be governed by and construed under and in accordance
with the laws of the District of Columbia, excluding its principles
governing conflicts of law, and the courts within such jurisdiction
shall be the only courts of competent jurisdiction.
